Goodwill is known for its donation and retail operations but it is the organization’s lesser known Contract Division that has recently blossomed. Offering janitorial, commercial laundry and document imaging services to local government, education and medical entities, Goodwill has acquired or grown 12 contracts during the past two years. While this growth is exciting, it’s the creation of jobs for individuals with disabilities and limited job history that make the expansion significant.
From cleaning multiple buildings for Colorado Springs Utilities, including the bustling Customer Service Center downtown, to scanning and electronically indexing medical documents for Ft. Carson’s Evans Army Community Hospital, 35 jobs have been created for individuals known to have difficulty finding employment. However, experience has shown employees with disabilities have above average records in job performance, attendance, dependability and safety.
The success of these partnerships is two-fold. While customers receive top quality service, they provide individuals with limited employment opportunities good jobs and a means to self-sufficiency.
